The A-Team welcomes riders in grades 6-12 during the 2022-23 school year. The team is part of the NorCal Cycling League. There are no tryouts and no cuts. Everyone rides no matter their ability or skill level. The A-Team competes in cross-country racing, based on National Interscholastic Cycling Association (NICA) standards starting in the spring. Racing is optional and not required to join the team.
REGISTRATION FOR THE 2022-23 SEASON IS CLOSED.
We will re-open the interest form for the 2023-24 season around mid-Sept 2023. League registration opens early Oct.
Each student-athlete pays three separate fees - registration, race and team dues.
Registration fees of $90 are payable to NICA and the NorCal League through the PitZone, NICA's registration platform.
Races are $50 per race and can be paid during registration or anytime up until a week before the race and these are also paid through the PitZone.
The team has separate dues of $150. Team dues include a team t-shirt and team jersey.
Scholarships may be available through the NorCal League for a portion of the League fees. Contact the Team Director if you need a scholarship application.
Pre-season practices begin October 15 and regular season practices begin December 1. Pre-season activities generally include bike check and fit, maintenance workshops, fun rides and skills clinics.
Through the month of Dec, we only have team rides on Saturdays from 10am -12pm. In January, we begin with Strength & Conditioning on Tuesdays and Spin classes on Thursdays and continue with rides in Trione-Annadel State Park on Saturdays. We will transition to mid-week riding in place of spin and conditioning as daylight allows in mid-March.
Practices are led by trained coaches and ride leaders that have had background checks and are trained per NICA standards in concussion awareness, risk management and CPR/first-aid.
Athletes will need to RSVP to every practice through our communication platform, Stack Team App, so that we have the correct ratio of coaches to students.
Student-athletes need to have a mountain bike and are required to wear a well fitting, non-damaged or expired helmet and closed-toe shoes while riding. Riders must carry their own spare tube, mini-pump and water/snacks for all practices. Gloves (full finger preferred), sunglasses, a hydration pack, padded shorts, a breathable jersey/shirt and a lightweight cycling jacket are strongly recommended.
Each rider is responsible for maintaining their own mountain bike. Our bike shop sponsors are Breakaway Bikes and the Bike Peddler and they offer team discounts.
The NorCal League also has a loaner bike program. Contact the Team Director is you are in need of a loaner bike.
Racing is optional but strongly encouraged! There will be 4 races for the middle schoolers and and an opportunity for the high schoolers to qualify to race in the championships. Parents typically provide transportation to/from all races. If a parent is not able to provide transportation, we can help arrange it. Most families and coaches camp on-site when available, otherwise, plan for hotel accommodations.
